Water Use and Conservation Programs

Water Use Program

The Water Use Program serves as the agency’s experts for water use quantification throughout New Mexico, including the following:

• Collecting, compiling, and summarizing data for the Water Use By Categories Report.
• Calculating and quantifying water use for water right permits, adjudications, and other agency needs.
• Reviewing subdivision proposals submitted by county governments for compliance with applicable requirements regarding water demand and availability.
• Working with public water systems throughout the state to complete:
• Water development plans
• American Water Works Association Audits
• Gallons per capita per day(GPCD) calculations

Water Conservation Program

The Water Conservation Program coordinates statewide water conservation activities. The program’s goal is to increase awareness regarding the value of our water resources and to educate the public about water conservation and drought. The program develops and distributes water conservation educational materials and conducts outreach events in classrooms and at public meetings.
